Gary Andrew Edmonds, 60, of Candler, NC completed this part of life’s journey on January 25, 2010
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Dad was preceded in death by his Father, Robert Steamer Edmonds. Surviving is his Mother Mayo Edmonds of Asheville, son’s Joby Edmonds of Candler, Jeremy Edmonds and wife Jamie of Canton, and grandchildren Pressley Andrew and Marrin Hope, and his extended family at the Skyland Fire & Rescue Department who meant more to him than they will ever know.
After his graduation from college, Dad returned to Asheville to work with his father Steamer at Charlotte Street Gulf . Upon his return he also proudly served his country as a member of the North Carolina National Guard. He was known as an honest business man and could repair anything that came through the doors.
His sense of community and service opened another door for him in 1996 when he served as a member of the Board of Directors at the Enka-Candler Fire & Rescue Department. Soon his interest in the Fire Service led him to pursue various training courses earning him certifications as a Firefighter II, Level II Instructor, and Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate. He began work as a part-time Firefighter with the Skyland Fire & Rescue Department while continuing his work at Charlotte Street Gulf , later to become a fulltime Firefighter at Skyland working his way through the ranks to Engineer.
Gary was a people person who loved to share whatever he had to offer. He loved the Lord and was a man of integrity; dedicated to passing along his values to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of friendship, honest work, and love and will be missed by the many family members and friends that he had.
A celebration of life will be held with family and friends at The Farm, a Gathering Place at 215 Justice Ridge Road in Candler, NC on Monday February, 1, at 4pm. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gary Edmonds Memorial Training and Education Fund at the Skyland Fire & Rescue Department, PO Box 640, Skyland, NC 28776
